Snowflake generation as millennials are sometime defined are our future and it is about time we learn to work with them without letting our own prejudice overshadow our experiences or help them see our point of view. Even if that was to be true, who is to be blamed for it? Parents and teachers? Or the company culture? After all didn’t our first bosses and mentors shape our personality as much as our parents? In 20 years, millennials are going to complain of the same problems with the next generations. Gen X complain that millennials are spoilt, full of themselves, averse to hard work and expect 'success on a plate'. This could mean trusting that an employee can also be more productive from a coffee shop than time spent on their desk. If an organization wants its people to think out of box and take responsibly, then it has to trust them. Micromanagement has always been a bone of contention. That’s why organizations are now doing away with annual review processes as stale feedback equals to unless feedback. Yes they expect feedback and validation but who doesn’t. Millennials understand that in today’s job market competition is fierce and so they go the extra mile to prove their worthiness. Gen X managers that focuses on emails and text during a meeting or presentation are equally disrespectful as Amy in this video. When a person choses to focus on a gadget while in conversation with someone else, it is just bad manners and both generations know that. Many Gen X invest time and effort to keep themselves abreast of the latest technology and social media and on the other hand, equal number of millennials now chose to stay off them as a personal preference. So here’s my take on stereotypes of Millennials and Gen X: Having worked with Gen X senior executives, I have noticed a few of them spending time on snapchat and Instagram during important meetings and have hired millennials that are always the first one to be in office. I am as close to the last of Gen X as I am to the older segment of millennials and in my experience of advising senior management and hire 100s of millennials, I have come across individuals that very easily slip into the opposite group. In my network, there are 2 opposing groups one represented by millennials, upset that this video encourages stereotypes against them and the other that reinforces the beliefs that they hold of millennials.Īm I a minority that views this video as it is supposed to be – entertaining and good acting skills by both actors? I, also represent the thin line between the generations. You may have seen it – it has over 2.1m views. The short video titled A Millennial Job Interview directed by Daniel Brea has been making rounds on social media.
